Snore Tactics

If you are one of the 75 million

American’s who snore, find peace

and quiet with these tips for Craig

Schwimmer, M.D., medical director of

the Snoring Center in Dallas.

Treat

Reflux

Indigestion disrupts airflow, making

breathing loud. A chest that burns after

eating is the telltale sign. Try an OTC drug.

Avoid

Nightcaps

Drinking alcohol within three hours of bedtime relaxes the tongue, tonsils and roof

of the mounth, often causing noisy vibrations when you inhale and exhale.

Change

Positions

When you sleep on your back, throat tissue blocks the airway more. Stick to your

stomach or sides.

Lose

Weight

The less fat there is in your neck, the more the airway can expand, so the easier it

is to breathe.

Talk

To

Your

Doc

Treatment for snoring varies. Common options: nasal spray, a devise you sleep

with that adjusts the position of the jaw or aides in breathing or surgery.

Listen

Up

Snoring that sounds like gasping or choking and happens five or more times an

hour may be sleep apnea, a health threat that can lead to heart disease-so see a doctor.
